Denny Morrison is stoked.

The 24-year-old has earned a spot on the Olympic speedskating team. Representing Canada and competing in his home province of B.C., well it just doesn't get any better than this.

He won silver in Turin, Italy in the team pursuit and he sees that as a first great step to greater Olympic glory. He's not shy of declaring his goal this time around, "win some gold at home."

A big part of his Olympic preparation is getting "psyched." He treats every race between now and the opening ceremony as if it were an Olympic race. He actually tries to "trick" his brain into believing each race is "the race of his life." That always gets his heart racing and he wants to experience that, just so he gets used to the feeling, not just control it, but to harness it.

This is a competitor who seems psyched up by the fact he's competing before an enthusiastic and expectant crowd. Getting psyched out by that kind of pressure, just isn't part of the vocabulary.

Even though he figures he's been preparing for 2010, pretty much all his life (he's been skating since he was three-year-old) he's found an outlet to escape from the intensity of international competition: woodworking. He's built a cabinet and a nifty ottoman with speakers in it.

With luck he'll soon be busy building a case for all those medals.
